Description

Apply to your skin before venturing into the sun. Re-apply regularly. Unlike the old style zinc sunscreens, ours won't leave your skin looking white. Common Sense: Avoid exposure during hottest part of day, wear light clothing and a hat.

Zinc Oxide is a broad spectrum UV blocker, and works instantly, the cream base and plant extracts enhance the SPF and help protect your skin from sun damage.

Made with: Infusion of Green and Black Tea in Water, Zinc Oxide (nano) and Coco Caprylate/Caprate*, maceration of Comfrey, Aloe vera and Elderflower in Sunflower Oil, Cetearyl and Sorbitan Olivate (emulsifier)*, Lanolin, Beeswax, Essential Oils of Tulsi and Carrot Seed, Naturaguard Ultra*, Bicarbonate of Soda. * ECO certified ingredients.

This has been one of the most challenging recipes we've worked on. After much research and deliberation, we are using a product called Zinclear as the foundation. This is a dispersion of Zinc Oxide nano particles in the Coco Caprylate/Caprate which are all naturally occuring ingredients, and have ECO Cert, and Natural Products certification. We are very happy with the final product, and have had great feedback from all our volunteers.

Testing by Dermatest confirms that the SPF is over 30 and that the product meets both Critical Wavelength, and UVAPF and UVAPF/SPF requirements. We have it available in 60ml and 120ml tins as well as a 50gm in the Retro Tin range.

Sunscreen Update

New Zealand now has sunscreen testing requirements in line with Australia. We have been in contact with Consumer and Eurofins/Dermatest, both of whom are involved in determining the requirements for New Zealand.

To meet the new standards, manufacturers must get an in vivo test of 10 people for SPF and an in vitro test for broad spectrum. We have had several in vitro tests performed between 2015-2017, a full in vivo and in vitro test performed in 2017 and 2018, and have had two further in vitro tests since then, performed by Antaria, who supply the Zinc. Our SPF rating has come back consistently at over SPF 30.

In order to ensure we meet New Zealand’s new standards, we are fully retesting with Eurofins/Dermatest. Interestingly, it seems that so far nobody has been able to tell us exactly how regularly we need to get our sunscreen tested, and this may end up being a determining factor as to whether we will continue manufacturing our sunscreen.

The results of this new series of tests could take up to 3 months, and we will update once the results come through.
